Ailin Akyner was a Diamond Prize Winner in the Advanced (Age 18-22) Category, at the 2025 Season 1 Couperin International Music Competition

Can you introduce yourself and share how you got into music?

My name is Ailin Akyner. When I was five years old, my parents took me to a specialized music school, where the teachers discovered that I had perfect pitch and advised me to learn the violin. Now, I am a fourth-year student at the conservatory in Almaty.

Could you tell us more about your award-winning work? For instance, how did you prepare it, bring it to life, or any interesting stories behind the scenes?

For this competition, I chose Tzigane by Maurice Ravel because this piece feels especially close to me. Every step—from choosing the interpretation to working on the technique—was exciting in its own way. I wanted not just to play the piece but to show its depth and emotions, to create a story that would touch the audience.

What do you believe defines a great violinist, and how do you incorporate your unique style into your music?

I believe that a great violinist is not just a virtuoso performer but someone who brings music to life, making it expressive and emotional. A great violinist helps the audience feel the music and experience it together with them. Each musician has a unique style that makes them special. In my own playing, I always try to be not just technically accurate but also emotionally expressive. I like to find a balance between tradition and my own interpretation—respecting the composer’s idea while adding something personal.

Can you recall a memorable moment from your career that had a significant impact on you?

The most memorable moments in my musical journey have been competitions and concerts. Each one has played an important role in my growth, giving me unforgettable emotions, valuable lessons, and new experiences. Every competition is a new challenge that helps me understand my strengths and see what I still need to improve.

Concerts, on the other hand, are a different world. Every performance is a special moment that changes how I see music, the stage, and myself as a musician.

Would you like to share your experience participating in our competition and anyone you'd like to thank (such as mentors, supporters or other team members)?

I would like to thank my teacher for helping me grow as a musician. I also want to thank the organizers of this competition—you are doing an important and wonderful job by supporting young talents. Thank you for appreciating my performance!
